neuroblastoma cell image jewelry for childhood cancer awareness and research

Childhood Cancer Jewelry: What is the Cell Image?

At Revive Jewelry, each of our pieces tells a meaningful story, transforming cell images of disease into beautiful jewelry that raises awareness and funds for critical research. Our Childhood Cancer Awareness Jewelry collection is no different. But with the different types of cancers affecting children, you may wonder—what cell image do we use to represent childhood cancer for these pieces?

We use a histology slide of neuroblastoma cells as the foundation for our Childhood Cancer Jewelry designs. Neuroblastoma is the most common solid tumor cancer in children, making it a powerful representation of the fight against childhood cancers as a whole.

What is Neuroblastoma?

Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer that develops from immature nerve cells, typically in the adrenal glands, but it can also occur in the chest, abdomen, or spine. It most often affects children under the age of five and accounts for about 6% of all childhood cancers, according to the American Cancer Society. While rare overall, it is the most common cancer in infants, with nearly 700 new cases diagnosed each year in the U.S. alone.

The cause of neuroblastoma is still largely unknown, though some cases are linked to genetic mutations. Symptoms vary based on the location of the tumor but may include abdominal pain, a lump in the belly, bone pain, and fatigue. Treatment often involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy, depending on the stage of the disease.

Why We Chose A Neuroblastoma Cell for Our Jewelry

All childhood cancers are considered rare, but neuroblastoma stands out due to its prevalence among pediatric patients. By selecting neuroblastoma cell imagery, we aim to create a universal symbol for childhood cancer awareness. Our goal is to honor every child and family affected by these devastating diseases while contributing to the search for a cure.

The Cell Image Behind Our Designs

The cell image we use in our Childhood Cancer Jewelry comes from a histology slide of SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells. These cells are commonly used in research to study neuroblastoma and potential treatments. You can view the original image we use for our designs here.

When you wear one of our Childhood Cancer pieces, you are carrying a small yet powerful tribute to the strength of young warriors battling cancer. Each piece serves as a reminder of the urgent need for funding, research, and hope for a future without childhood cancer.
