sarcoma alliance group to celebrate sarcoma achievements

Partner Spotlight: Sarcoma Alliance

So what is sarcoma anyway? Basically, it's a type of cancer that forms in the connective tissues of the body. There are two main types, soft tissue and bone. It's very rare; less than 1% of the US population suffers from sarcoma. Exactly why it's so important to help spread awareness, change stigmas and raise funds to help find a cure.

Revive Jewelry is a platform to give a voice to lesser known diseases that don’t have huge corporations behind them setting up run/walks or charity banquets. I want to use it to give all diseases equal funding toward a cure. To take the power back from these diseases and rally a group of people around them so we can provoke positive change for a brighter future.

It’s funny how the universe works sometimes. This was illustrated by how I was introduced to Susan with the Sarcoma Alliance. Susan’s neighbor, Mishell, met me at an event and was so moved by my mission that she shared my information with her. Susan is a sarcoma survivor and volunteers her skills as a public relations guru for Sarcoma Alliance. When she contacted me to become a charity partner and told me about the disease, her story and the story of some of the founders, I knew this was a cause I needed to get behind.

I had the pleasure of attending an event to view the Iconic Gateway Pylons of LAX turning yellow this July in honor of Sarcoma Awareness Month (due to Susan’s magic!). It was a sunrise meeting of about 30 survivors, caregivers, philanthropists, charity partners and medical professionals.

What an amazing experience. I was so moved by the strength and courage of all the survivors; a woman who had lost her arm to the disease. Others who were recently diagnosed, who’s fear could be sensed despite being masked by a strong front. Others who were still fighting, unsure of what their future would be. Another who was in remission, happy to be there but still weary of a relapse. One thing was clear though, I was standing in the midst of fighters through and through.

I was also in awe of the dedication of the caregivers. That morning, I met Dave, who’s wife had passed back in the ’90’s from sarcoma. Yet, he was still there, showing up to spread the word and help the sarcoma cause. He showed me a photo from his wallet of the two of them. It brought tears to my eyes, knowing and feeling how much love this man still had for his wife. I think we can all agree, we need more Dave’s in this world.

It's these people and their stories that solidified my dedication to this cause. This is a cause that needs a voice, deserves a voice. Don’t you want to help people like Dave’s wife and everyone else affected by sarcoma?

Well, that’s exactly what the Sarcoma Alliance does. By providing guidance, education & support to everyone affected by sarcoma through programs including financial assistance, support groups, peer-to-peer support, information on sarcoma & individual guidance.

Personally, my favorite thing is that they use the sunflower to inspire their members to turn toward the sun with strength & hope. What an amazing Alliance & I couldn’t be prouder to help raise awareness & funds for such a worthy cause!

I hope you'll consider supporting the Sarcoma Alliance and their cause through the purchase of one of our Sarcoma Awareness pieces, which are based on cell images of Synovial Sarcoma.
